Frequently Asked Questions
Who do you provide counselling to?

I provide counselling to everyone. While I have extensive experience supporting first responders and their families, my services are open to individuals, couples, and families from all backgrounds.
What issues do you help with?
I commonly support clients with trauma and PTSD, stress and burnout, anxiety and depression, grief and loss, life transitions, relationship and family concerns, and the unique needs of first responders and their families. You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from counselling.
How do I book an appointment?
Appointments can be booked through the online booking link on my website at www.resilientpathways.ca. If online booking is difficult, you are welcome to contact me directly and I can help book your appointment.
Do I need a referral?
No referral is required to access counselling services.
What does a first counselling session look like?
The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We will talk about what brought you in and what you are hoping for. There is no pressure to share more than you are comfortable with.
What if I’m not sure counselling is right for me?
This is very common. I offer a free 15-minute consultation so you can ask questions, share what is going on, and see if counselling feels like a good fit.
Are your services covered by insurance?
Coverage depends on your individual insurance plan, but most extended health benefit plans cover counselling services provided by a Registered Social Worker (RSW), which I am.For many first responders, including police officers, as well as their spouses and dependent children, mental health coverage is often far more comprehensive than people realize.
In many cases, this includes 100%coverage, no referral required, and no annual dollar limit on the amount that can be used. This coverage typically extends to spouses and children and may also continue into retirement as long as you remain enrolled in your benefits plan.I often hear from first responders and family members who were unaware that this level of coverage existed.
If you are unsure what your plan includes, I may be able to help you navigate this. My education credentials and registration number with the College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers of Ontario are listed on my website, as insurance providers often request this information. If you are covered, counselling may come at no out-of-pocket cost to you or your family.
Do you bill directly to insurance companies?
Direct billing is not available at this time, but is expected to be available soon. Currently, payment is accepted by e-transfer, credit card, or cash, and a receipt is provided for insurance reimbursement.
Are sessions virtual or in person?
Free 15-minute consultations are offered virtually.Ongoing counselling sessions may be attended in person at my comfortable home office in Iroquois or virtually, depending on your preference.
How long are sessions and how often do people attend?
Standard counselling sessions are 50 minutes. Frequency varies and may be weekly, bi-weekly, or as needed.
Is counselling confidential?
Yes. Counselling services are confidential and follow the professional and legal standards set by the College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers of Ontario. Limits to confidentiality are reviewed during your first session.
Do you work with children, couples, or families?
